At the 2007 team banquet a Pilsner Bustle was held. The pilsner bustle is a beer taste-off held in an eight beer single elimination tournament format. It includes a consolation and third place bracket to give every beer a second chance and maximize the beer drinking enjoyment. All Wizards at the banquet participated, either as a taster, server (for the non-drinkers), and emcee.

Who could have imagined the outcome???
The American beers got pummeled if not for one plucky homemade brew. Wizards Pilsner brewed by hand by the Wizards themselves stole the show. The Czech beers stood tall in the crowd taking second, third, and consolation champ. The Germans had a disappointing result with their lone very dry beer. The other Minnesota entrant, Summit Grand was relieved to have survived one round in the consolation round but really didn’t have a chance against the heavyweights from Europe. The out of state beers went winless.
I think on a cooler day the hearty beers would have won as the lighter less hoppy beers tended to fall by the wayside given the heat and somewhat smoky conditions.
What a Bustle!
